Glasgow School of Art, 167 Renfrew Street
Each year, members of the Seniors’ Art Class from Garnethill Multicultural Centre explore Glasgow School of Art’s Archives and Collections. Their new art work is the relaxing and thoughtful SITTING WITH MACKINTOSH, inspired by the iconic Charles Rennie Mackintosh chairs in the Glasgow School of Art collection, beautiful balances of geometry and organic forms.
In mediums from charcoal to collage, watercolour to printmaking, their work reflects on the universal nature of chairs – objects that are both functional and symbolic, offering lessons in perspective, pattern, colour, craftwork, and history.
The group’s creative and artistic work is in The Window on Heritage, a spacious deluxe display room on the ground floor of the Reid Building of Glasgow School of Art, facing across Renfrew Street. It also contains archival artefacts, historical timelines from 1847, Mackintosh chairs, and a full model of the renowned Mackintosh Building which awaits rebuilding. An exhibition and room of hope. Not to be missed!
Free entry, running to Saturday 17th May.
